Temporary changes to Macarthur Street
Infrastructure NSW and Richard Crookes Constructions are working with the City of Sydney to improve traffic management on Macarthur Street near the Powerhouse Ultimo site. This busy thoroughfare is used by pedestrians, cyclists, including e-bike riders, vehicles and construction vehicles.
From 5 November 2026 and for the duration of the project the following changes will be made to improve traffic management on Macarthur Street between Harris Street and The Goods Line:
Speed limits for public hire e-bikes: Geofencing technology will limit public hire e-bikes to 10km/hour on Macarthur Street and The Goods Line.
Changes to suggested cycling routes: Macarthur Street will be excluded from Google Maps and Apple Maps suggested cycling routes to encourage cyclists to use alternative routes where possible.
Temporary safety barriers: Water-filled barriers will be installed along the section of footpath on Macarthur Street between Systrum Street and The Goods Line to clearly separate pedestrian space from the route used by bicycles, e-bikes and construction vehicles.
