Modification 1 is on public exhibition 17-31 July 2025

A modification to the Powerhouse Museum Ultimo Revitalisation State Significant Development’s approval lodged with the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) is now on public exhibition from 17-31 July 2025.

Throughout the tender process for main works, all three contractors advised that parts of the Wran and Galleria buildings will need to be disassembled and replaced. This is to ensure the safety of construction workers and ongoing structural integrity of the building, while adhering to the heritage requirements of the built form.

Infrastructure NSW has prepared a modification to reflect this revised approach, along with other proposed design amendments.

These modifications are covered within the existing budget.

Where can I view Modification 1 planning documentation?

All the planning documentation is now available to view on the Planning Portal

Feedback during public exhibition should be made directly to DPHI.

Please refer to the Have Your Say page on the Major Projects planning portal for more detail.

If you have any questions about Modification 1, please reach out to the project team directly via:

The next step in the planning process will involve DPHI:

  • Assessing the merits of the modification in accordance with legislation, plans, policies and guidelines

  • Considering the issues raised in submissions and the applicant’s response to those issues

  • Making a determination on the modification

  • Outlining any changes to the existing conditions of the development.

The NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces will make the final determination, with the decision to be published online on the planning portal.
