Laying the Ground work for Powerhouse Ultimo's new buildings

The first “slab-on-ground” - a ground-level concrete slab - for the new building was poured earlier in the month adjacent to the Post Office.

This first pour is a practical and important construction milestone, with the new building beginning to take shape above ground.

The slab covers roughly the size of two basketball courts at approximately 450 square metres and required around 3.2 tonnes of steel reinforcement - about the weight of two family cars.

Collaboration between numerous skilled trades, project teams and specialist contractors was required for these works, which included backfilling, installing steel reinforcement, preparing formwork and coordinating the pour of the concrete.

With the first slab-on-ground complete, work on the new building structures can progress.
