Site establishment gets underway
The NSW Government has commenced site establishment for the revitalisation of the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo, and has awarded the contract for early works to Australian company Demolition Environmental Civil Contractors (DECC).
The early works will establish the site, conduct investigation works and undertake any required remediation ahead of main works commencing.
Works on site will include:
- Services investigation
- Establishing secure hoarding and fencing around the site
- Setting up the site office, temporary works and signage
- Connecting to services
- Identifying, marking and protecting trees to be retained
- Removal of the external awning in The Goods Line terrace
- Soft strip out of internal fit out (e.g. remaining exhibition infrastructure, café equipment, amenities).
Early works commenced in early November and are expected to take up to six months.
Infrastructure NSW will work closely with DECC to ensure that any that may impact the local community is notified ahead of time.
Procurement of a main works delivery partner is currently underway, and contract award is anticipated in early 2025.
The SSDA was re-exhibited from 10 September to 9 October 2024, and Infrastructure NSW is currently preparing a supplementary response to submissions.
