Construction partner appointed and Mod 1 lodged
The NSW Government has appointed Richard Crookes Constructions to deliver the revitalisation of the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo.
Richard Crookes Constructions brings a wealth of experience delivering heritage and cultural infrastructure, including the Naala Badu expansion of the Art Gallery of NSW and Walsh Bay Arts Precinct revitalisation.
Following the March 2025 planning approval, this contract award marks the next phase of delivery.
The revitalised museum will feature:
-
Exhibition spaces meeting international standards
-
Conservation of heritage-listed buildings
-
A 2,000sqm public square along The Goods Line
-
New connections between the CBD, the museum and surrounding precincts.
Throughout the tender process, all three contractors advised that parts of the Wran and Galleria building will need to be disassembled and replaced to ensure the safety of construction workers and ongoing structural building integrity. In response, a modification to the State Significant Development Application (SSDA) has been prepared to reflect this revised approach, along with other proposed design amendments. These details will be available for public viewing on the NSW Planning Portal next week.
Works to prepare the site continue while Richard Crooks Construction and the NSW Government finalise the detailed construction program.
